Our Special Named Funds empower families to build a supportive community in honour of children and young people affected by cancer. Creating a fund in their name is a meaningful way to make a difference.
The funds you raise go directly to the area of our work you choose. Whether it’s supporting ground-breaking research into a specific cancer, or funding our vital information booklets, we’ll work with you every step of the way to helping create a brighter future for children and young people with cancer.
Having a fund allows you to fundraise in your own way, at your own pace, whilst also trusting CCLG to ensure all donations go to your chosen area of support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Setting up a Special Named Fund
Why should I set up a Special Named Fund?
Many people decide to set up a fund as a way of contributing and making a difference while a young person is going through treatment. Some choose to set a fund up in memory of a young person choosing to share a loving tribute, and leave a lasting legacy.
Fundraising is a powerful way to bring everyone together and can provide a much-needed focus at a difficult time.
Many families also feel comforted by doing something practical to improve futures for children and young people with cancer. Money raised through Special Named Funds can help to fund research into kinder, more effective treatments which could improve survival rates and help young people to live longer, healthier lives after treatment.

Where does your money go
Does the money raised go directly to my fund?
Yes. 100% of the funds raised for a Special Named Fund will go to your chosen area of our work. For example, research into a specific type of cancer, patient information or our general work helping all children diagnosed with cancer.
There is no management fee and we absorb the 'behind the scenes' costs of fundraising, such as debit/credit card donation fees - so for every £1 raised for your fund, £1 can be spent in your chosen area.
Some of our Special Named Funds choose to allocate a percentage of their fundraising to our 'general fund', which supports all areas of our work, for children with all types of cancer.
Once there is enough in a fund (or combination of relevant funds) we put out a call for research and invite scientists to apply in open competition, following strict review standards so we can be sure that we only fund the best research possible.
Where your money goes
How does my donation help to fund research?
Funding research is one of CCLG’s main objectives as a charity.
CCLG is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), ensuring all new research grants follow a rigorous AMRC-guided processes. Our independent Research Advisory Group (RAG) also ensures we have a wealth of medical and scientific expertise, allowing us to identify areas of need and support.
We invest in pioneering childhood cancer research that will push boundaries and deliver results. We want better, faster and kinder treatments for every child diagnosed with cancer.
Our research projects cover the whole cancer journey from learning about how cancer cells grow to improve everyday life for patients and survivors.
We also have a Patient and Public Involvement group (PPI), who help assess research projects.
This collaboration helps make sure that research focuses on what really matters to the people it’s meant to help, like patients and their families. PPI makes sure research is not just scientifically strong but also practical, patient-friendly, and truly helpful in improving lives.
It’s important to note, whilst not all research projects lead to immediate clinical change, these studies are still very important and can lead to future developments in treatments and care.
Once your Special Named Fund has supported a research project, we’ll share clear, accessible updates that you can pass on to family and friends.
You can read more about our research here.
