David Vernon's Fund

Raising funds for research into Ewing's sarcoma

Our son David was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in September 2005. Despite chemotherapy and radiotherapy he died 10 months later aged just 17.

We started fundraising, for three charities initially, but later concentrated on Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group. One of the first fundraising initiatives was when David’s uncle and a friend canoed the whole length of Leicestershire which raised £2,000 for CCLG.

I am a keen fisherman and to raise funds I sell the trout which I and fellow anglers catch locally.

We also keep hens and the sales of their eggs contributes to our fundraising.

My wife Liz produces a wide range of jams and chutneys which are proving to be very popular, with a good number of regular customers eagerly awaiting the next batch. A few jars of Chilli jam recently found their way to RAF Mount Alice on West Falkland, where they helped to keep the RAF lads warm!

As a break from jam making Liz has also supported CCLG as a member of the Publications Committee by reviewing draft information booklets.

As of November 2019 we have raised over £28,000 to help with the research into Ewing's Sarcoma.
