After two years of successful surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Ben's scans showed no evidence of cancer. After his experience, Ben and his family wanted to raise funds for CCLG to support research into rare renal tumours. Here, Ben’s family share his story...
Our beautiful son Ben was diagnosed with metastatic clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) in December 2014.
Treatment was intensive, involving surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for over a year. In Febuary 2016 Bens scans showed no evidence of disease, and he is now monitored closely.
Ben wants to help other children affected by rare renal tumours.
As a family and with the support of our friends we want to help fund research into kinder treatments, and ultimately a cure for all childhood cancers. We have decided to focus specifically on rare renal tumours of childhood. At present research and information into these tumours is limited, we want to be part of something that changes this. We would also love to be able to provide support for families affected by these cancers.
Our B.O.Y.'s Fund has been set up because of each child affected by rare renal tumours. All of our family call Ben 'the boy' in some form or another - "our beautiful boy", "my boy", etc - and B.O.Y. also stands for 'because of you' - because of Ben and all of the other children we want to help.
