Raising funds for research into Ewing sarcoma

Rosie Rocks The World is a Special Named Fund at CCLG raising money for research into Ewing sarcoma in memory of Rosie Burnside-Fitch. Rosie was 17 years old when in May 2020 she was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. Her mum Emma shares her story…

My eldest daughter Rosie was tragically diagnosed with metastatic Ewing sarcoma in May 2020 just after her 17th birthday. Even with a quick diagnosis and amazing care from the NHS, she sadly passed away just before her 18th birthday, far quicker than we could ever have anticipated.

She was such a beautiful person who remained positive even when faced with such a difficult diagnosis and she made me proud every day.

Rosie meant so much to everyone she became close to and was a pleasure to be around. She was smiley, bouncy, clumsy, giggly, good tempered and thoughtful. She loved to be creative and would spend lots of her time drawing or painting as it made her truly happy. She had a passion for anime and all things Japanese. This Asian culture influenced everything she liked from the food and places she ate, the books she read, right through to her choices in music.

Rosie had planned to travel as soon as she could, and was heading to Berlin on a history trip, to pursue another of her passions. She was intending to study history and archaeology at university. But, her main goal, was to visit Japan. If dreams could come true, she would travel there on the Trans-Siberian Express, which perhaps was an influence from The Hogwarts Express.

Rosie’s philosophy for life was that “your experiences are not just based on the experience you have, but on your mindset, and how you respond to it”. This was very much the positive mindset she had when dealing with anything, and even her cancer wasn’t going to get her down.

For us now, living without Rosie, our lives will never be the same.

In Rosie’s memory we have painted stones and we are sending these stones out into the world to travel. This is our way of giving Rosie the adventures she should have had in life. We want to keep Rosie and her positive joy moving into the future around the world and hopefully bring a little happiness to others, too.

Follow us on Instagram to see images of these beautifully painted stones.

Thank you.
